Celebration - 1 month!

I have now officially been here for one month! Even as course-work piles on and the prospect of needing to write a thesis proposal looms near, there's time to escape to the mountains for a much-needed break. My program (Resource Management and Environmental Studies) put together a trip for new and returning students to go up to the UBC cabin at Whistler. We went on a hike up a lovely mountain, sampled wild blueberries, then came back to the lodge in time for some time in the sauna and an Iranian-Indian meal :) The next day a few of us went on a hike again and I thought to myself- it's like being a "real" person again- enjoying the weekend with no responsibilities! Even if my homework suffered, well worth-it to get to know the people in my program better and be in nature while the sun shines...

You really shouldn't post amazing photographs of BC. It just isn't fair Kirsten!

Breaks are good for the soul. These experiences are the things that you will remember about your time there, not the weekends you spend studying. It sounds like you are settling in. Good luck!
